About "Paul’s Holly Pantalettes"
The Earl’s chair ( Pato (Packie) Maloney) {R}, ~ Holly Bush (F. Dw yer) {R} ~ Ladies Pantalettes {R}
The first reel was written by flute player Mike Rafferty’s uncle. Mick was a giant of Irish music over in the States, whom Steafan loved to hear play. The Holly Bush was written by button accordionist Finbar Dwyer which Steafan learnt from Blackie O’Connell. Steafan reckons it’s a perfect flute tune. He picked up the Ladies Pantalettes from Billy Brown, his first Uilleann pipe eacher! Allegedly “the Ladies Pantalettes” is a bygone nautical term for the smallest sail on the boat. At least, that’s what we’ve been told.
