Grammy® Award-nominated, multi-award-winning Japanese-Canadian flute player Ron Korb has traveled the world in search of rare and unusual flutes and other woodwind instruments. Named one of the "Ten Best Flute Players in the World” by the World Flute Society, Ron is a respected authority and master performer on many rare and ancient instruments. His wide-ranging and colorful compositions draw upon the music of many cultures and his mixed-race upbringing in Canada.
He has shared stages with Peter Gabriel, Cesária Évora, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Rocky Dawuni, Ricky Kej, John Kaizan Neptune, Tia Carrere, and Dadawa. As an international touring artist, Ron has performed at The Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, the Glastonbury Festival in England, the National Theatre in Panama City, the Shanghai International Spring Music Festival, the Century Theatre in Beijing, Arnhem Cathedral in Holland, Expo 2005 in Japan, and Madison Square Garden in New York.
On his new album World Cafe, Ron called upon veteran Latin Jazz greats, the legendary Cuban pianist Hilario Duran, percussionist Jorge “Papiosco” Torres, and Juno-winning guitarist Johannes Linstead. Meanwhile, Ron introduces bamboo flutes, a shinobue, and even a tsuchibue, a Japanese bamboo flute and ocarina respectively, to create a tonally rich texture.
To date, World Café has already received the International Clouzine Music Award for Best World Fusion and the Global Music Award for outstanding achievement in World Music. It was an Official Selection for World Music Central’s Music for Hispanic Heritage Month 2018, in addition to charting on both Ken Stowar’s Global Rhythms world music show (CIUT-FM, Canada) and going to Number #1 on Babel, La Música Del Mundo Chart November 2018 (Mexico).
