The Scandinavian ballads can be traced back to the Middle Ages and was originally sung while dancing. The songs could have over 100 verses and tells stories about magical creatures, historical events or the fate of a hero. This is a very old Danish ballad about the young girl Vesselil who holds on to her dreams, even though her evil stepmother tries to trick her into giving up.
