Laman means 'sea' in Papiamentu, the language spoken in the Dutch Caribbean (Curaçao, Aruba and Bonaire). Papiamentu is a pidgin language heavily based on Portuguese and Spanish. The song is about the push and pull of the sea, that represents the duality that we have as human beings. It's an ode to Curaçao as the lyrics say 'bo musika ta zona den laman' meaning 'your music is heard in the sea', making a reference to Curaçao's rich musical culture and beautiful Caribbean blue sea. The two compliment each other. The drums and the bass line emulate the roughness of the sea crashing against the rocks. This evokes energy and resilience.
