ABOUT
JOMIGUEL, whose real name is Bakangana Bora-Uzima Joël, is a singer-songwriter born on November 13, 1995, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As a child, he faced adversity such as war and poverty. As he grew up, he developed a passion for music, which he would soon use as therapy to heal his ills and inspire others to do the same. Despite his family's financial problems, there was still a radio in their home, and it was thanks to this that JoMiguel began to discover the songs of popular artists such as Céline Dion, Corneille, and Craig David, which began to make him dream. In 2006, while a finalist at elementary school, he fell in love with hip-hop after watching the video clip for Eminem's song "Cleanin' Out My Closet." He became obsessed with the artist until he began to write the name "Eminem" in large type on all his notebook covers. In 2010, in his 4th year of secondary school, he began to write his very first lines. When he found a CD containing the instrumentals of rap songs, he celebrated. He laid down his own verse and melody on the instrumental of Jeezy's song "Put On," for him a sign that he could become a good rapper in the future. At the same time, he memorized several lyrics from mainstream songs in the rap, R&B, pop, and French music genres. In 2017, he went into the studio for the very first time to record a reggae song and received positive reviews from his fans as well as the local press. This song was produced by producer Mishka Prod in his little home studio. In 2018, he created his YouTube channel and began posting singles on it. JoMiguel taught himself to rap and sing on his own, which makes him a self-taught and versatile artist.
