About "Gil Felix: After the Ilê Passes"
This song honors Ilê Ayê that was the first Afro percussion group from Bahía to participate in Carnival. Previously, black people were prohibited from joining Carnival in Bahía. With the help of a French ethnographic photographer, Pierre Vierge, and financial assistance, they were able to purchase the necessary clothing and cover the expenses needed to take part in the Carnival. With an Afro theme that celebrates African Black culture in Brazil, Ilê Ayê has become a symbol of beauty, culture, and resistance in Bahia and Brazil.
