A Platform for Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
ABOUT
Dara Yara is an ethnic fusion band from Moscow, Russia, performing authentic Russian and Balkan songs in original arrangements appealing to contemporary audiences.

The band's sound is charged with the energy of roots music. Powerful vocals are supported by ethnic instruments such as the balalaika, bansuri flute, cajon, darbuka, kalimba, didgeridoo, kabatar, and others. Slow lyrical songs and fragments of traditional rituals are interspersed with groovy trance and incendiary dance compositions.

Dara Yara's repertoire is based on unique authentic material, including that recorded in folklore expeditions by the band's leader Dara (Daria Rybakova). Singer and ethnomusicologist Dara, who has been exploring ethnic singing for more than 10 years, founded the project in 2018.

Dara Yara released its first EP "Perelyotyvala" ("Flying Over") in 2019. Its new single, a Serbian folk song "More izrejala, nane," appeared in winter 2021. The band is currently working on a new album.

The group is actively performing throughout Russia. It has participated in a number of world music festivals, such as Tavrida Art (Crimea), Usadba Jazz (Sochi, Russia), Musafir (Ufa, Bashkortostan), and Visa for Music (Morocco). The group is a Russian World Music Awards laureate.
