The song tells the story about a girl watching the sky. Every bird crossing it has a demonic meaning to her. After seeing a stork and a crow she sees a cuckoo. She asks it for cuckooing as many times as many years the girl is going to live. According to Polish (or East European) belief the cuckoo is a fortune-telling bird.
