“A cronopio is a drawing outside the margin, a poem without rhymes…” This is how its author, Julio Cortázar, defines them in his book "Historias de Cronopios y de Famas". He says that he came up with the term while in a theater at a concert given by Stravinsky. He defines them as green and humid objects, and describes them as naive, sensitive and messy creatures. The term ended up becoming a kind of praise, an honorary treatment.
A curiosity: It is also called with this term, a fossil the
"Cronopios Dentiacutus", an animal from the Late Cretaceous, discovered in southern Argentina.
