Questo brano ha come punto di partenza l’accostamento, ormai divenuto classico, tra l’Antidotum Tarantulae e il brano conosciuto comunemente come Tarantella del 1600; l’Antidotum, riportato nei suoi scritti dall’erudito gesuita seicentesco Athanasius Kircher, uno dei primi studiosi ad interessarsi del fenomeno del tarantismo, è descritto come una delle melodie atte alla cura del morso della tarantola. Tra questi due brani, sfruttando la similitudine ritmica tra la tarantella e la giga barocca o irlandese, si vengono a interporre due ‘intrusi’: una citazione del terzo tempo del Concerto per violino in La minore BWV 1041 di J. S. Bach assume gradualmente gli accenti e le ornamentazioni irlandesi per sfociare poi in ‘Cliffs of Moher’ una vera e propria jig irlandese.
This track matches the quite ‘classic’ Antidotum Tarantulae e Tarantella of the 16th Century combination. The Antidotum was written down by Athanasius Kircher, an outstanding 16th Century scholar (one of the earliest to get involved in the study of ‘tarantismo’), and was told to be one of the melodies chosen for the therapy of the bite of the tarantula. Because of the similarity of the rythm of the jig (Irish or Baroque) and the tarantella, we had the idea to insert between the two ‘standard’ tunes a quotation of the third movement of J. S. Bach Violin Concerto in A minor BWV 1041, that gradually takes Irish rythm and ornamentation to burst out then in a real Irish jig (called ‘Cliffs of Moher’).
