With exodus the Turlitawa leaders Mustafa Zekirov & Iwan Harlan, devoted to the issue of "greed, materialism & nationalism”, give expression to their powerlessness and anger about the current lifestyle and culture. Mustafa explains it this way:
The only people who never started a war actually are the Sinti & Roma. Why?
Without any country and any possession, there simply is no reason for a war. The statement: "This country, this piece of Earth is mine" is an absurd idea for a Roma.
The freedom of the "Gypsys" is based on possessing nothing, nothing except themselves. Günther Grass commented on a performance of the Roma Theatre "Pralipe", of which Mustafa has been a member for many years: "... we as the human race can learn a lot from the Roma & Sinti’s idea of freedom".
