WINDOWS IN THE WEST Lyrics & Music Copyright Simon Atkinson 2012 All Rights Reserved

Late Afternoon, it's a chill Glasgow day
It's dark as the night, as the snow steals the sound
Falling to Earth, hiding roads and the pavements
Lone figure wanders the street and footprints the ground

From her window 2/3 behind heavy curtains
Jenny Mcrae wipeing the frost from the glass
She watches the snow scene develop below her
And wonders if she knows the stranger
She's seen walking past

In the West End of Glasgow
The tenement building stands proudly
Her beautiful red sandstone walls so solid and sure
All of her occupants passing their lives safe in her shelter
She's watched over all of those faces and many before

In 3/3, that's the top floor
There's Mr Delainey, writing a chapter a day
His dream is that one day he might get to be a real writer
It's only the day job that seemingly gets in his way

In the West End of Glasgow
The tenement building stands proudly
Her beautiful red sandstone walls so solid and sure
All of her occupants passing their lives safe in her shelter
She's watched over all of those faces and many before

Time passing her by
So much has changed , yet so much remains
The Clyde, where the shipbuilding thrived
Buildings grand, where those cranes used to stand

Pride, windowed inside
Over those years, framing their lives
There under dark winter skies
She shines, such a glittering prize

In the West End of Glasgow
The tenement building stands proudly
Her beautiful red sandstone walls so solid and sure
All of her occupants passing their lives safe in her shelter
She's watched over all of those faces and many before

There's a party, on the first floor
For Dougie Galbraith, who just reached his sixty-fifth year
He walked in the door and discovered his lounge full of family
A lovely suprise but he'd rather chill out with a beer

The next door apartment belongs to old mrs Brogan
And big Tabby moggy named Tam, who thinks it's his own
He surveys the chicken she foolishly left on the table
He'll see just how much he can steal before she gets home

In the West End of Glasgow
The tenement building stands proudly
Her beautiful red sandstone walls so solid and sure
All of her occupants passing their lives safe in her shelter
She's watched over all of those faces and many before
She's watched over all of those faces and many before
She's watched over all of those faces and many before
