Mônica da Silva very neatly brings together her Brazilian and American sides, making softly sensual indie pop that casts its tendrils around Rio MPB (Brazilian popular music). Inspired by her experiences growing up between the Midwest, USA, and Belém, Brazil, a city on the Amazon River, Mônica's new album Brasilissima has touches of "samba and bossa, and even a small nod toward the very percussive axé music, but, along with partner Chad Alger, who shares playing, production, and compositional credits, she's created a hybrid that's her own, and ridiculously addictive."

Da Silva's single Aí Então was "selected from tens of thousands of songs" by the pioneering label Putumayo World Music to be featured on their new compilation. Created to introduce new global music to broad audiences, Brazilian Beat chronicles the vibrant indie scene in Brazil and around the world.
