A Platform for Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
About "Carlisle Blues"
In 1879 the United States Bureau of Indian Affairs began a program of removing indigenous children from their homes and placing them in boarding schools to facilitate assimilating them into the dominant white culture. It was cruel and destructive policy that has left horrible cultural scars on First Nations communities. A similar policy was enacted in Canada as well. The Carlisle Industrial Indian School in Carlisle Pennsylvania was the first of these institutions of cultural genocide.
