SUMI is a Brooklyn-by-way-of-Japan superstar on the rise. Her incredible new single "Nomadic Life," that ended off the Summer on a high note, has us dancing into the Fall, and with good reason. On the track her poppy lyricism shines through as her spirit comes alive in the track. We had the honor of catching up with SUMI to dive a little bit deeper into her musical breakdown.

When you are writing music, what comes first, the music or the lyrics?
Definitely melody comes first. I usually play chords with synth and sing over it. then write lyrics.
What is the inspiration and aspirations behind the latest single release?
It is about speaking up the truth against BS and being bold about it but being silly at the same time. I think everybody can be BS detectors!
Can you tell us about the upcoming record? How did the concept come to life?
The next song is called "Nomadic Life" coming out very soon this month as well. It is more electropop and the anthem song with Japanese game sound flavor. The concept was naturally come up as I became a modern nomad lost relationship, job, and home in the urban city. The perfect storm made me give a birth this song :)
What is the ultimate inspiration when penning the tracks, especially on the new record?
I always go with honesty because audience is bullshit detector :) Also, living in the big city like NYC sometimes drain you emotionally in a good and bad way. I feel every emotion so intensely.
Do you produce and record your own records, or do you head into the studio?
I wrote four songs on this dance pop project with my producer, Brian Lindgren and I am a co-producer. Songs were born in my living room and his studio in Brooklyn.
What are your key musical goals for the end of the year?
I would like to send out these music in person to all so absolutely YES to be on tour!
