A Platform for Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
ABOUT
My name is Giovanni Kiyingi. I am a Ugandan folk music, world music, and Afro-house music artist. As a multi-instrumentalist (Uganda indigenous instruments), my unique sound is defined by rich instrumental textures and rhythmic influences from Uganda, Africa, and beyond. I am innovative, especially in how I fuse all these influences to create a sound that defines me as an artist.

I play indigenous instruments like the tube fiddle (Endingidi), thumb piano (Akogo), African harp (Adungu), traditional flute (Endere), drums (Engoma), xylophone (Amadiinda), etc.

I have performed at large music festivals in Uganda, across Africa, and the rest of the world. My authenticity and sharing of my talent with others have allowed me to work/share the stage with good musicians in Africa and outside Africa, i.e., Crow and the Canyon band in Uganda (Uganda National Theatre and Makerere University) - US Embassy, PAM Award winner Suzan Kerunen, multiple award winner Maurice Kirya, Myco Ouma, Mathambo from South Africa, Kinobe Herbert at Pearl Rhythm Festival (Uganda), Dr. Mulatu Astatke (father of Ethio-jazz) at Jazz Village (Ethiopia), Joel Ssebunjo at Doa Doa Santuri Festival (Uganda), Kenya’s Makadem, Sarabi band at PAWA (Kenya), SONDEKA (Kenya), Fête de la Musique (Uganda), Milege World Music Festival (Uganda), Bayimba International Festival (Uganda), Ilmiba Cultural Festival (Tanzania), Utam Festival (Kenya), and Laba Arts Festival (Uganda).

Europe Harmonie Festival (Germany), Ethno Germany 2016 (Germany) and 2018, Ethno Flanders 2018 (Belgium), Dranouter Festival 2016 and 2018 (Belgium), plus many cultural workshops and performances in Switzerland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, and France.

I was one of the Ugandan artists chosen alongside Fr. Michael Ssenfuma to welcome Pope Francis to Uganda at Kololo on 27th November 2015 with a new day.

I am currently working on my fourth album, Nomads, and looking forward to more collaborations with many artists around the world.
