A Platform for Ethnically and Culturally Inspired Music
ABOUT
Ethnotic Project

Romanian folklore is an ancient universe, full of treasures and beauties that have remained unchanged by the passing of time. Moreover, Romanian folklore, with its specific rhythms, beautiful and melodic lines, depths, expressiveness, and force—all results of an authentic artistic production—is and will definitely be a generous and unfailing inspiration for actual and future Romanian musicians (and not only!), composers, and players.

Being convinced of all this, Irina Sârbu (voice), Cezar Cazanoi (flute and pipe), Capriel Dedeian (guitar), Anatol Cazanoi (cymbal and keyboard), Laurențiu Horjea (bass), and Dragoș Mihu (drums) created the "Ethnotic" concept. They approach a repertoire made of famous Romanian songs that now have new sounds and rhythms, without having their original beauty and authenticity altered. They are five players and one voice, all of them being musicians, trained and formed in long studying years, having a varied and vast experience. From their minds and talent, music erupts with overflowing vitality, fresh and alive, that surrounds you completely. In the newly created universe, the melodic and rhythmic sounds recognizable by any Romanian soul and which amaze any foreigner, are combined with the jazz freedom from across the ocean. The Romanian pipe melody floats in an elegant and confident way over sophisticated chimes. Instruments interweave their colors in unexpected but enchanting sounds, the voice alternating words with top-quality jazz improvisation parts, and everything is composed on solid ground, that provides each artist the freedom of performing their beautiful and creative solos.

The Ethnotic Project has long and unfailing roots in Romanian folklore, whose essence is the source of life itself. Musicians process this essence, transforming it into an original old-new artistic product of the highest quality, recognizable all over the world.
